The News, Krysta Edition

So some interesting new things to report, both good and bad. I’m always a good news first kind of girl, so here it is: I’ve been contacted by a business in Portland, Oregon that is interested in carrying my cigar boxes in their shop. Yay! So I’ve got my butt in gear and working on new boxes since my shop is so low on inventory. And now I’ve got the more difficult task of figuring out where and when to take the best pictures in my new space since the lighting is completely different. Oh well. Once that’s figured out, taking the pictures will be… a snap! haha couldn’t help it!

The less exciting news is that I’ve got my third round of tonsillitis in the last five/six weeks. After two rounds of different antibiotics and a break from all exercise (except for dog walking clients, bien sur), it looks pretty clear that I need to have surgery to remove them. Besides the suckiness of having your tonsils removed at 26 (yuck!), I’ve got the wonderful situation of no health insurance. I’ve found out about Access to Healthcare which is an insurance-like program for the working poor like me. I’m in the process of getting approved, so fingers crossed!

And on a fun note: I went up to Tahoe this Saturday to get a little sunburnt and hang out with my pal Jocelyn. Here’s a great shot of the beauty that’s just 45ish minutes from my door. Big smiles of happiness!

Oh goodness finally an update!

Well, well, where does the time go? And how to start up again after standing still for so long? Here we go!

In December I moved back into my mom’s house and my divorce became official on Valentine’s Day. It was a bitter holiday for sure! Flash, my wonderful (and now only) dog, did bring me two dead birds as his Valentine’s gifts. They were precious to him, so I guess I should be thankful! ūüôā Dogs are great!

What else? Let’s see… I thought signing up for Match.com was a great idea, but it was instead way too much way too fast! So I’m on invisible and waiting the paid six months out. If you are thinking about it though, I have nothing but good things to say about the site and most of the people I met; it was just way too soon for me. Maybe some other time!

So between tax season, dating, and my growing dog walking and pet sitting company (Lucky Mutts), I’ve never been busier. I haven’t even had time to make more than two cigar boxes in the last six months! But life is returning to a new normal and I’m enjoying it. I’m much more active than before (imagine a dog walker being more active!), I’ve lost 25 pounds because my eating habits are so much better and I’m reconnecting with friends and making new ones too. I’ve discovered that I absolutely love dancing and have been trying to get in as much as possible, even if I’m a tad terrible! I’m also much more social than I remember ever being, which has been a fun growth for me. And I’m pretty much trying anything new anyone throws at me. It’s a good time for growth all around!

Anyway, as things settle more, I will be posting regularly again and getting my butt in gear with the cigar boxes too. I look forward to reconnecting with everyone! Have a sunny and barktastic day!

Etsy Store of the Week – OrangeFuzz

This week’s featured Etsy store is orangefuzz. Orangefuzz is a creative duo that makes gorgeous soaps that aren’t just for women!

And this first item I just had to feature since it is a wonderful eco-friendly shaving kit that is presented in a recycled¬†wood cigar box, so definitely close to my heart! Isn’t this just the most handsome presentation?

Are you looking for a simpler gift for maybe that brother-in-law? Or your man can’t grow something to shave for the life of him (this would also be my brother-in-law!). Orangefuzz¬†offers other masculine gifts that won’t embarrass your man. Because what man doesn’t love beer?

And while the offerings of orangefuzz tend toward the masculine, their great soaps and body products come in scents and styles that anyone can enjoy.

So if you’re shopping for any guy this holiday season, think about spoiling them with these sudsy products! And because you’re buying a product that’s ready-made, you can order for Christmas until Sunday, December 19th.¬† So take a look at the fine products of orangefuzz today!

Etsy Store of the Week – RoverDog

I’m so sorry for getting this week’s Etsy Store of the Week feature out so late in the day! This past week has been exhausting both mentally and physically for me and I needed the day to recharge. In order to recharge I stayed up way too late last night playing with a new skill (screen printing), slept in way too late, watched a football game at the bar with hubby and then saw the new Harry Potter movie! It’s been awesome and much-needed. So now I’m finally sitting down for long enough to tell you about this week’s featured store: RoverDog which makes the most stylish coats for dogs that I have ever seen!

RoverDog¬†creates her stylish pet clothing in Toronto¬†and then ships all over the world. And while I’m not usually that big on dressing up my dogs (Ok, except for the holidays!) we now have a wonderful little chihuahua that has decided that mildly chilly is just too cold for her. So on my journey to find something comfortable, warm and not too frilly for Bean, I found it can be frustratingly difficult to find what I want in a dog coat. And then came along RoverDog! This is what I want, and isn’t this dog just dapper?

Taking a look through the shop, I also stumbled upon a cute little number for my nephew-dog-in-law, a yorkie owned by my very preppy and high-end business working in-laws:

And the models in this shop couldn’t be cuter!

These are made to order so if you have troubles fitting a particular dog you can get exactly what you need! And because these are made to order, the last day that you can purchase one and expect it for the holidays is December 1st, so hurry up and pick one out from RoverDog!

So do you dress up your dogs for warmth, charm or fashion? Let me know!

Etsy Store of the Week – makye77

This week’s featured Etsy¬†shop is a wonderful craftsman from Michigan who plays with the beautiful shapes, textures and colors of wood. Makye77, better known as Natural Selection Studio, turns wood into gorgeous decorations for your home or office. These could be pieces of art to look at and admire,¬†or functional complements to your space.

The first one is from his line of wood with color accents. And its color contrast is pure beauty! I just love that line of dark brown from the bark.

And not all of his creations have a color added to the wood. He offers many in their original color and quality.

And it’s not just bowls that he offers in the Etsy shop, but decorative and usable¬†vases of different shapes as well. I love the swirl that this wood has, and again, I’m in love with the natural opening. This particular vessel is decorative, and you can see why – it’s absolutely gorgeous!

So go check out¬†Natural Selection Studio at makye77 on Etsy. He offers more¬†pieces similar to the ones I’ve featured above and also has some wooden bowls and vessels of a¬†different style with more color and decoration. These would make gifts for the person that has everything on your shopping list¬†since it can be for both¬†beauty and function. I’m thinking here of my father-in-law! And because you are buying a completed unique item, there’s no wait time for production which makes gift giving all the easier.

Re-organization!

Oh! Yesterday not only did I have three orders from Etsy¬†to ship out but I also got new furniture to rearrange my too-cramped, too-filled crafting space. Roger was also pleased to know that he wouldn’t have to trip on the way to his desk. I took “after” pictures but spaced on the “before” ones. Thank goodness, they would have been embarrassing!

Closet organization for upcycled cigar boxes

Look at all those cigar boxes! I had the bottom nine cubes before and added the top six yesterday. The stack of trash cans you see aren’t considered clutter. I swear! They, along with the stuff in them, are for Lucky Mutts’s Poop-Scoop-A-Thon which is coming up on Saturday, November 20th. Check out the events section of Lucky Mutts for more information.

I also now have a shipping center! Hehe… sounds so official! At least I’m pretty much ready for the holidays even though I’d still like to make 10 or so more boxes.

And yeah, the sewing machine doesn’t have much to do with shipping, but it works! And I do like seeing it out in the open instead of buried in the closet. Anyway, I’m off to craft and list items in my Etsy shop, check it out if you’d like!

Etsy Store of the Week – Storeyshop

Oh! I’m excited about this week’s Etsy¬†store because it’s one that I’ve had my eye for a while now. There are probably¬†a dozen or so items that I’d love to purchase and I’ve tried to keep it to four – so hard! So this week’s store is Storeyshop, a UK based¬†(I know, I’m so international) hand cut and laser cut greeting card and more¬†shop. The sense of humor and love that comes from Storeyshop is wonderful and makes you stick around to check out her tons of listings (192 right now!). With that much creativity, she’s got something for everyone!

So for the item that I want the most, I’m having a hard time deciding on just one! And then I remembered, hey, this is my blog – I can have more than one! Isn’t life liberating once you realize your own power? Well, that’s true, but yeah, greatly exaggerated in this case. However, these two great cards are ones that I would love to get for Roger on some anniversary soon!¬† Storeyshop has lots more of these “I love you more than…” cards and can customize the message too in case you can’t find exactly what you want.

Another card I’d like to get Roger is this next one. He likes Superman and comics (but prefers the Hulk¬†or Batman¬†if anyone’s listening and caring at the same time) and this would be just right! And I just love the layered¬†work done on this greeting card.

Storeyshop¬†offers some great humor-based love greeting cards, but it’s not all she offers. There are housewarming, birthday, holiday and random occasion cards too. They all have bright colors and bold, simple designs which is the hallmark (ha!) of her cards. Here’s one in particular that I like because of the detail work on the house.
